The importance of healthy bones
Let's start with the basic functions of bones that most of us know about. First off, our bones are the frame that our bodies are built around they provide structure for the body, anchoring our muscles. We need strong bones to help us stand up straight and keep us from falling when we bend over. We also need healthy bones for optimal protection as they shield and protect our organs. Additionally, many of the muscles that we use when moving are connected to various bones.
Bones act like a calcium bank to store calcium for our body's use. If you do not take in enough calcium from your diet to maintain adequate levels in the blood, the body reacts by withdrawing calcium from your bones. Our bones are alive and are constantly being broken down and rebuilt; that's why calcium is critical for building strong, healthy bones in people of all ages.
